MAKING A DIFFERENCE

A collaborative partnership between Family Innovations, Saint Paul Schools and the University of Minnesota Extension Office – Children, Youth & Family Consortium is making a difference for families, children and the community on Saint Paul’s Lower East Side.

Family Innovations is partnering with Saint Paul Public Schools to provide school based and home based mental health services to Bruce Vento Elementary, on Saint Paul’s Lower East Side.  The University of Minnesota Extension Office – Children, Youth & Family Consortium is also an active collaborative member and has developed a Calming Room and Community Garden.  All services are provided with a ‘trauma lens’ due to the level of community challenges this neighborhood based school faces.

Family Innovation’s school based model includes a trauma trained clinical supervisor and five full time staff who are available to work with students during the school day, and to provide intensive home based services to families.  The model is fully sustainable and is being replicated in other elementary buildings during the 2015-2016 school year.

The following video produced by the U of M Extension Office highlights the collaborative efforts at Bruce Vento Elementary.
