Home Based Staff

Family Innovations provides home based mental health services through Medical Assistance, for children, adolescents, and their families, and for individual adults across the Twin Cities area, and around the community of Alexandria, Minnesota.  Family Innovations is certified through the Minnesota Department of Human Services as a Children’s Therapeutic Services and Supports (CTSS) provider, and as an Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services (ARHMS) provider. Eligibility for home based counseling requires active Medical Assistance coverage.  Many referrals for community based counseling services come from county social workers, case managers, schools, hospitals and clinics, and other community providers.

Kathy Patras-LegutKathy Patras Legut – MA, LMFT

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Clinical Supervisor

Kathy completed her Master’s in Counseling and Psychological Services and a Certificate Program in Marriage and Family Therapy at Saint Mary’s University of MN. She is licensed as a marriage and family therapist in both Minnesota and Wisconsin.  Kathy enjoys working with individuals, couples, families and adolescents, with some of her areas of clinical interest described below. In addition to her clinical practice, she oversees the Community Services Division at Family Innovations, including the delivery of mental health services to youth and families through Children’s Therapeutic Services and Supports (CTSS), and Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services (ARMHS) across the Twin Cities area.

Judi Hafner

Judi Hafner
Employment Outreach and Internship Coordinator

Judi received her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the College of St. Catherine in 2000. She has been providing home-based services to children, adolescents and families since 2001. She has experience working with children, families and groups focusing on issues such as grief and loss, anger management, depression, anxiety, abuse, conflict resolution and parenting.  Judi currently heads up the internship program at Family Innovations where she is involved in the application and interviewing process as well as providing all of the training and field observations for the interns.  In an effort to recruit and hire top quality employees, Judi networks with colleges and universities in the five state area to reach out to graduating students and alumni.  She also conducts orientation for all of the newly hired employees.

John AndersonJohn Anderson – MA, LMFT
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Clinical Supervisor

John is a Minnesota Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. He joined Family Innovations in 2008 and currently provides both out-patient counseling services in the Anoka office and serves as a clinical supervisor for a team of home-based mental health practitioners. John earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Bethel University and his Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Argosy University. He has completed Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy training and often utilizes TF-CBT to help individuals who have experienced trauma. He also draws from years of Play Therapy experience, which is often helpful for younger children to express and process their experiences; he is currently pursuing certification as a Registered Play Therapist (RPT). John utilizes strength-based, solution-focused and narrative approaches to therapy.

  • Suzy BerndtSuzy Berndt, BA

    Suzy received her B.A. in Biology from Wartburg College in Waverly, IA in 2012. She is currently working on her Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Liberty University. She plans to graduate in December 2016 and pursue LMFT licensure. Suzy has experience with children, adolescents, adults and families in outpatient, home and school-based settings. She looks forward to building strong relationships with the clients and families as a foundation for positive growth within the family and individual.

  • Angela FaheyAngela Fahey, MA

    Angela graduated with a Master of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Bethel Seminary in Saint Paul in May 2015 and with a Master of Divinity with an emphasis in Spiritual Formation from Bethel Seminary in Saint Paul in May 2014. Angela has completed training in Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and is continuing to find this training effective with the children and adolescents she works with. Angela also has completed Eye Movement Desensitization Training (EMDR) in January 2014 as well as has a specialization working with eating disorders from her previous positions.  She also enjoys discussing spiritual/religious concerns from her role serving as a military chaplain.  Angela is certified in PREPARE/ENRICH.  She is passionate about her work and loves working with clients within various settings around a variety of topics. Currently, Angela is pursuing her licensure as an LMFT.

Jeff CrossJeff Cross – MA, LMFT
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Clinical Supervisor

Jeff earned his MA in Counseling Psychology from Bethel University and is licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist. He has additional training and experience in the use of Evidence Based Practices for treating anxiety, depression, and disruptive behaviors. He uses Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) to treat children and adolescents with histories of trauma. Jeff also has experience in the field of addiction. He enjoys working with individuals, families, couples, adolescents, and children to address the challenges life presents.

    Jillian completed her Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology at Argosy University. She has over ten years of experience in providing mental health services, focusing most of her career working with children and adolescents in various settings. She has extensive training and experience with issues around attachment and trauma. Jillian is known for her calming presence and use of creative interventions. She uses a variety of approaches but especially enjoys utilizing art and child-centered play.

Taren received her Master of Arts degree in Adlerian Counseling and Psychotherapy with an emphasis in clinical counseling from Adler Graduate school in September 2014. Taren has experience working with individuals in chemical dependency settings as well as individuals with developmental disabilities.     Fred received his B.S in Psychology from Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois and completed his M.A in Counseling Psychology at Bethel University here in Minnesota. Fred also holds a Child and Adolescent Counseling Certificate (C.A.C). He has experience with teens at risk, and crisis intervention. Fred has done work with children, adolescents and families working towards family reunification and has experience using directed play and child-directed play therapy.
